 The Department of Education is a beehive of academic activities from its inception in 1953. The building of the Department of Education was inaugurated by the eminent Philosopher and Former President of India Dr.S.Radhakrishnan on 26th December 1955. The Department offers B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Phil., Ph.D., and D.Litt courses. All the Teacher Education Programmes are recognized by the NCTE. The members of the faculty Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors keep in constant touch with the latest developments in the field of education. It has spacious R.K.Shanmugam Chettiyar building with requisite for teaching, learning, research and extension activities. The department periodically restructures and updates the courses to match international standards. The Vision of the Department is “Preparing the competency based commitment oriented teachers to create a better progressive social order, promotion of research, experimentation and development of productive efficiency of the educand".
The Department of Education has organized three International Conferences, five National level seminar and several National Level Workshops. Department of Education has produced 286 M.Phil and 224 Ph.Ds. Staff of the department have published 512 articles in reputed National Journals and 250 in International Journals. The department of education is publishing the research articled through on International Journal “ Annamalai Journal of Educational Endeavours ” (a peer Reviewed International Journal ) ISSN: 2278-9804. They have also attended number of International conferences and National level Conferences (113 & 352respectively). It has also completed seven major projects and three major projects are ongoing. Further the Department of education has been sponsored by UGC under SAP - DRS stage - II. Our Department Received Award National Educational Excellence Award 2017 by National Institute of Cleanliness Education and Research, New Delhi ,India.
The distinguished alumni of the Department of Education were working as Vice-Chancellors, Head of the Departments in various Universities, Principals in various colleges and College of Education, Chief Education Officers and District Education Officers. The first and Second Vice Chancellors of the Tamilnadu Teachers Education University and the former Vice Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University are the Alumni of the Department of Education. |
